In my own opinion I think you chose to do a blogging activity rather than a written activity because blogs give us students a different perspective on our own writing and it has personally taught me different things about my writing. The blogs personally have taught me three things that I wouldn’t have been able to do with a normal writing activity. The first thing is that how I connect with the world through a simple blog and how I can express my ideas with other people than just a group of kids. It has also improved my writing because having certain things that I had to write like sentence structure helped me improve my writing and it wouldn’t have been able to do with a simple writing assignment. The final thing that personally helped me with the blogs that was better than a writing assignment was that I liked how we could chose what we wanted to name our blog and this lead to me being able to stay focused on what I liked and by letting me chose what I wanted to write about it made me actually liking to keep writing.
There have been many things that I have accomplished through the whole blogging activity but there have been 3 major things that I have really improved on. The first is how I’ve been able to see how others think of my writing. This isn’t just my fellow peers but the world and different opinions that have spread through my blog. The next thing is how I’ve been able to stay up to date with the latest sports and topics. Even though this isn’t a big thing that you would think would be important personally writing and sometimes criticizing sports and topics was fun for me a major learning experience. The final thing that was so great about this blog was that it taught me more of how to choose a good topic and how to stay focused on one thing. This was accomplished by making our blog title and this narrowed the search for a certain subject and this helped enhance our abilities because this was something we liked.
Blogging has taught me certain things or key concepts about blogging and present day life. One of the key concepts I learned was obviously blogging. This was the second time I had done a blog and my writing keeps getting better. I think this is because I get more positive criticism from others and this just encourages me to write more and more to see how my writing has improved. Another key concept that I have gained or learned is technology obviously all of us have been using computers to write our blog and this just makes the use of the technology that surrounds us even easier to use now. Using this technology weekly has personally made other things easier rather than not using these devices. It has also taught me how to use a different blog and by using this blogging site I’ve become a better blogger and it has spread my knowledge of the blogging world. The last important concept that it has taught me is research. This concept has improved because weekly I had to research my topics and this also improved my writing another key concept. The act of researching helped all of my blogging and it will eventually help me in my other classes.
Blogging has obviously been spreading through our class and the school. Blogging will stick with some of us and some will forget about it and will move on to regular writing assignments. Personally writing and reading have never been fun to me or I’ve always ignored it. But, after the blogging activity I’ve noticed that reading others and commenting on their work not only improves their writing but it also shows me that I can not only learn from a teacher but that a kids mistakes and their positives can help me change how I write and look at other peoples writing. It will help me in school with my reading and writing but outside of school now the blogging has made me a smarter person by helping me with my vocabulary and by helping me with how I criticized others in a better way to improve them. Blogging will help many of us in all of eighth grade and it will be an experience none of us will forget.
In all sports no matter how active you have to be or how long you have to do the activity for; all activities involve energy. Researchers and nutritional advisors have preformed many test and experiments to test the levels of carbohydrates, salts, calories and etc. an average person would need to have to obtain maximum amounts of energy. Philosophers at the University of Massachusetts recently did research on this topic of energy obtained through a certain diet. The test consisted of certain gels, bars and snacks that all were proven at some point through some athlete to have given them a certain amount of energy.
The Zone diet which is a diet that is based on the purpose that an average person should eat an equal amount/percent of protein and fat in the diet, with only a slightly higher amount of carbohydrates. From other researchers thoughts this will help people feel great, lose weight, perform better, and cure everything from heart disease to cancer. This diet was formed by Barry Sears a highly regarded researcher from the University. Dr. Sears has also proven too many that such foods like pasta and bananas; that were all consumed earlier to bust an athlete’s performance or energy should be left out of the Zone diet or not eaten as much. He also informs many female athletes and some male athletes that a high protein diet which is obtained from meats and a low carbohydrate diet will lead to other symptoms rather than a dramatic weight loss or muscular build. He notes that the symptoms may be a decrease in calcium loss which makes up our bones and to little amounts of calcium in our bones can lead to us having bone loss which he notes is a key factor in females. Carbohydrates are meant to be eaten at an averagely amount to build a strong athlete but not too many to weaken the bones or the athlete. T he storage of carbohydrates or glycogen; which is used as a short term energy use rather than carbohydrates is primarily stored in our cells. Glycogen is usually made in the liver or muscles around the human body can also be made in the brain and stomach. Glycogen is primarily used for sudden burst of actions or reflects so sprinters use this substance as well do hurdlers.
Researchers also did extensive research on sport drinks, bars and gels to test which brand and which substance is better. The University of California notes that not all brands were tested and not all flavors or kinds were either. But, they found that sport drinks not only gave someone an increase in energy and athletic performance but also found that in one experiment found that runners in a race that drank a certain kind of sports drink ran faster and also felt the race was easier. AS for bars and gels athletes fell that it didn’t matter if they took in a solid form of carbohydrates or a liquid form. Gels seem to have been disliked the least giving many athletes not as much energy and not as much performance.
I think with all of the advancements in science in the sports industry many records and many sports will revolve around all of these experiments and many sports will become more than just winning or losing
On Saturday May 9 Bobby Jenks a closer for the Chicago White Sox admitted at throwing a pitch behind Ian Kinsler the All-Star second baseman for the Texas Rangers. This provoked MLB officials, to look into the matter and fine Booby Jenks. This was a shock to many because of the fact that twenty or so years ago he would’ve had to answer a few questions about it and that would’ve been it.
The game eventually was won by the White Sox only a few pitches after Jenks threw the ball behind Kinsler. During the game two batters were hit by the starting pitcher Kevin Millwood. This action of Jenks proved to be on purpose when in an after game press conference he admitted to throwing the ball behind Kinsler. His actions would result in him having to pay a whooping 750 dollars to an MLB source.
You may be asking why he did this and most people don’t know why someone would purposely throw a fastball at 96 mph at another human being. Sports writers have said that he might have done this because of the fact that he wanted to make an impact on the financial pocket of the Texas Rangers Organization. This is all a speculation due to the fact that this would only have a very minor affect on the team. Others believe he did this because Kinsler who is making 3.2 million dollars this season and is well on is way of making another All-Star game this season is a bright spot on the young Texas Rangers ball club. This was trying to make a statement of how if got hurt they wouldn’t be good or something like that. These speculations of him purposely hurting Kinsler or hurting the Texas Rangers Organization lead to MLB officials having to lay down this fine/punishment.
Bobby Jenks a stand out reliever in the Organization and in the MLB has achieved many awards through his career as a closer. He has had 41, 40 and 30 save seasons in a row and was named to the All-Star game twice once in 2006 and another in 2007. He is standing at 6’3” and a hefty 275 pounds. During the 2009 season he is going to make 5.6 million dollars and this 750 dollar fine will be pocket change for him.
From all of this I think the MLB learned something that all of this old fashioned purpose pitched and brawls are part of the game. But, no one should ever purposely try to hurt someone in that way. I also disagree with the fact of no suspension for his actions and only fining him 750 dollars.
Steroids are used for many things and can be harmful. Steroids may be used to cure disease or to help growth of certain muscles. Steroids are commonly found in plants, animals and fungi. I will further be discussing how steroids help humans and side-affects my lead to disorders.
Steroids are most commonly acknowledged in baseball. Although baseball has one of the strictest bans in all of sports players continue to use them. Baseball players tend to use them to recover from injuries and they also use HGH a Human Growth Hormone to increase body mass; while rookies use them to gain mass to hit and throw the ball farther. Steroids lead to suspension to all MLB players no matter how good they are or how well they play. The rules for suspensions have already hit three people in 2009. These three players are Manny Ramirez (serving a fifty game suspension), Sergio Mitre (50 game suspension) and finally J.C Romero another 50 game suspension. The first positive test would result in a fifty game suspension. The second positive test would result in a one-hundred game suspension. Finally, the third positive test would result in a lifetime suspension from Major League Baseball. Due to the severity of the suspensions many MLB steroid users and past steroid users have refrained from ever using them again. Steroids have affected many of the greats like Roger Clemens, Jose Conseco, Barry Bonds, and Mark McGuire. All have denied use of any steroid use but all went through Transformations that led to MLB physicians and doctors to wandering why Barry Bonds at age 38 grew 4 hat sizes. This is too due with a side-affect of blotting. These new proposed penalties are much harsher than either of the first two; however, they must be accepted by both the players or owners before any changes can be made. Many Hall of Fame invitees have been rejected from ever entering due to them cheating any system or records.
One of the many things that a lot of people would like to see removed would be Barry Bonds’ name taken away from the top of the home run record book. My final statement is that steroids lead to increase muscle tone and may look better but from increased amounts of testing and experiments doctors and physicians have lead to mental and emotional dysfunctions in the brain and many other organs.
During one of the most intriguing series of the 2009 playoffs their was a technical error that led to the Bulls not being given a point.
This series has been so astonishing because in the 7 games the had played. In total the teams went to 7 overtimes and the Bulls left a mark on the defending champions, the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics this year were hyped to be the best team in the NBA this season only to be outdone by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Who posted an astonishing 66-16 win-loss record. The Bulls coming into the game were tied 3-3 in games and they were never considered to be in contention with the Celtics. The Bulls a number 7 seed ended the season with a satisfying 41-41 record. Due to these slim odds that they had the used their brightest superstar who is Derrick Rose. He led the team at the point guard position and led them in points and assists.
In the decisive game 7, it was played in Boston, there happened to be a technical error in which the scorekeeper gave 2 points to the Bulls instead of 3. This led to the Bulls being defeated by 109-99, but with this added point the game could’ve been completely different. From this technical error the coach might have done his strategy differently and the players might have been playing harder instead of giving the game to the Boston Celtics.
On my final statement to the Boston Celtics, their fans, and that scorekeeper the only way you guys beat us is that you cheated. In game 5 Rajon Rondo a six foot guard tried to block a 6-11 center and hit him in the mouth from behind which led to him missing the open runner. This led to Brad Miller to have to be checked by the medical crew and was seriously bleeding from his mouth. He later missed these and the Celtics won the game. Second, you had to pay a scorekeeper to mistakenly put 2 instead of 3 and change the complexion of the game. Finally, I have three questions, Why didn’t Rajon Rondo get fined or suspended for his action? Why do the Celtics feel that their better than the Bulls? And finally, Why did the Boston Celtics cheat to beat a better team?
The Chicago Cubs have been in the MLB since the 1870’s and have been much decorated. The Cubs have brought through many Hall of Fame names such as Ernie Banks and Ryne Sandberg. Through the many years that the Cubs have been playing baseball they have done what all clubs hope of doing and that is winning.
One of the most memorable things that will never leave a true Cubs fan is in 2003 when Steve Bartman knocked the ball away from Moises Alou and he dropped the ball which led to a series of errors and hits for the Marlins and eventually led to the Cubs losing the game 8-3. This was a deciding point in the series because after this win the Marlins would take the Cubs to a game seven where the Cubs would lose 9-6 in the decisive game 7. In the Cubs time they have won 2 World Championships the last being in 1908 and the previous one in 1907. After the horrific incident in 2003 the Cubs have failed to make it past the NLDS but are still the power horse in the N.L Central.
Although the Cubs have had very troubled times in the playoffs they have had bright spots in certain positions such as catcher where Geovanny Soto lead the rookie pack in the MLB and was the rookie of the year. They also have acquired some big names like Rich Harden an ace from the Athletic s and veteran closer from the Marlins Kevin Gregg. Through the Cubs youth they have a good chance of ending their 101 years without a World Series win.
All baseball fans know about the Cubs from their success and especially Cubs fans know that from everything that the Cubs have to offer that they can win a World Series. That is just a little bit of what the Chicago Cubs have done in their years.
